My Favorite Poem Contest

Poem #1 - nina's Blues by Conelious Eady was interesting but is very down. Right now I'm feeling very positive and up-lifting and this poem is kind of bringing me  down.

Poem #2 - En La Calle San Sabesian by Martin espada is a peom that seems encouraging and make me feel adventurous. I like this peom the best so far because it has me thinking much deeper thoughs and appeals to the the reader's emotions.

Poem #3 - Bowl by Valerie Martinez is kind of boring to me. It's lacking originality and doesn't keep me interested. Maybe it's because its about a bowl.

Poem #4 - Dear Lake, Echo by C.D. Wright is a very strong poem. I liked how he or she used very powerful words like "sinfully right." So far, this is my favorite poem.

Poem #5 - Assult to abjury by Raymond Mcdaniel is also a very well written poem becaus eit capture the tone of he mood during the time when Katrina hit New Orleans. It was very deep and had me on the edge of my chair to hear wha was next. This is now my favorite poem.

Poem #6 - Bones by Cornelis Brady is very vague and didn't keep me interested. Boo!

Poem # 7 - Those winter days by Robert Hayden is a good poem. But isn't better then the other ones because they kept me attentive while his kept me interested.

Overall, I like Assult to Abjury by Raymond McDaniel because he took powerful words to make into an even better poem. His words kept me curious and hungry for the next. His creative ways of putting the phrases together to help the reader see through his eyes was very effective.

How to Kill a Chicken by Katherine Tate

http://www.npr.org/2011/02/13/133695461/how-to-kill-a-live-chicken

"How to Kill a Chicken" is a story about a female farmer who is divorced and lives comfertabley on her small farm has an epiphony while eating a chicken she witnessed dying first hand. This story is the most intriguing to me because of the fact it had an epiphony. The other stories weren't as interesting and didn't really have a solid meaning. Or if there was a meaning it was hard to understand for me. This story also has a well-written attention getter which is the main reason I started to read it.

Kehinde Wiley

The work that Kehinde Wiley conveys to me is expressing the positive aspects of a man in general. I don't believe that it was specifically about african-american men. I just saw a man in general. One thing that is unique and stoof out for me was the fact that he had some of the designs that were intended to be in the background was also painted on the man. Like on the painting on the bottom the yellow desisgn in the background are also engraved on the man's blue tee-shirt. Maybe it represents a type of aura that is all around the man? Either way, it really stood out for me.

Banksy is Art

1. I believe that Banksy is a true definition of an artist. He's an artist because he expresses his mind through his paintings without the rules or having others clouding his imagination. The places he expresses these epiphonies might not be the greatest but it's proving a point that could not be better explained in any other location.

2.If Banksy was a politician he might have chosen a different alternative to express his thoughts which could lead to grafitti if it was a biased statement. But since his artwork seems to be neutral, I believe all he wants is a neutral reaction. Grafitti artists want a very negative of very positive reaction, not the equilibrium.

3. I don't believe it's important to express one's art in public, but it could be essential if the artist's creation was created for a purpose.

*memoir

Success always leads to another's failure.

Realizing what's out there for me.

Being the one who stands out.
